REP. HUBERT VO (D-149) INTRODUCES FIRST BILL
This bill will provide stiff penalties for pocket bike and minimotorbike operators on public roads.

(AUSTIN) -- Today, Rep. Hubert Vo (D-149) introduced House Bill 995 that will make riding a pocket bike or a minimotorbike on a public road a misdemeanor punishable by a $750 fine or forfeiture of the bike for destruction. If the offender is a minor, then the guardian will be held responsible.

Rep. Vo believes that with this increased penalty that parents will think twice before they allow their children to ride these pocket bikes on public roads. These bikes are only 18 inches off the ground, and they have no lights or mirrors, thus the riders are putting themselves as well as others in danger by operating on public roads.
 

Thus far there have been several accidents in Texas and at least two deaths. Larry Clancy, age 14 of Cypress and Vicente Andrade Jr., age 7 of Laredo, both of these accidents resulting in death are a result of pocket bikes on public roads.
