(AUSTIN) -- Today, Rep. Hubert Vo
(D-149) introduced House Bill 995
that will make riding a pocket bike
or a minimotorbike on a public road
a misdemeanor punishable by a $750
fine or forfeiture of the bike for
destruction. If the offender is a
minor, then the guardian will be held
responsible.
Rep. Vo believes that with this increased
penalty that parents will think twice
before they allow their children to
ride these pocket bikes on public
roads. These bikes are only 18 inches
off the ground, and they have no lights
or mirrors, thus the riders are putting
themselves as well as others in danger
by operating on public roads.
